Friday October 1st: Hamptons Man Goes to the Theatre. You're Invited to the Show and Afterparty!

Its Gotham's Circle Of Life. One day we all schlep home from the beach, exhausted from parties, determined to settle down and get serious. A nanosecond later we're all itchy for the fall social season, and all those parties we can't possibly miss.

You're cordially invited to scratch that itch, Hamptons Man style.

On Friday October 1st join friends old and new at a private performance and afterparty celebrating the Australian hit play, The John Wayne Principle at the Ohio Theater in Soho.

Hamptons Man likes this comedy, a "searing portrait of the insidious attractions of corporate life," because its got all characters and misbehaving we've come to love: the anti-establishment trust fund kid, his type-A sister, sex, politics, and a stock tailspin. A greater buildup to a rousing after party there's never been! Check out two great reviews here and here for more about the play.

Attire: Whatever. But we couldn't resist a shameless plug for the Hamptons Man Collection.

This should be a great evening: the spirit of Hampton's Man, an Aussie play that satirizes NY, schmoozing and an open bar. Plus, this is the show's closing night so the cast will join us for the party as we toast the show and let the evening slide into the sublime.

Hundreds Descend on Hamptonsman Declaring a Celebration of Peace, Love, and Gucci.

IMG_1799IMG_1823
IMG_1843Would they come? Would there be enough booze? Would the town allow us to drop a portapotty on the sand, or would they confiscate it? Would we all go to jail when Hamptonsman burned on the beach where no man had burned before? Could a bunch of amped-up, type-A, Polo-clad, goody-bag addicted New Yorkers chill out by water's edge at night and commute with nature? Big Questions All.

250 people came. They wore Polo, they wore Manolo Blahniks, they wore David Yurman, and yet they chilled, chanted and whooped when the fires burned. Some brought offerings to the Man: Jaime Poris, Carmel Dubuqe and Elisa Distefano (pictured here with friends) brought White Cranberry Martini's in Silver Shakers. Eddie's truck brought the grills and the bar. The bar: it was a last minute thought. We needed something to put the booze on. An ironing board from K-Mart did the trick.

We danced and admired the man. We schmoozed like it was the last schmooze we'd do. And when we left late, late at night the beach was as we found it: pristine end empty.

Our thoughts turned to another party going on at the same time in a far off Nevada desert. So very different, and yet connected. They dropped E; we did Gin and Tonics. They ran around the Playa half naked; we thought about removing half a layer of Nichole Miller. They were resolutely anti-corporate and anti-brand, we sported so many labels we were resolutely blasé.

Amidst sand and fire, both made history.

What is Hamptons Man?

Trying to explain Hamptons Man to someone who has never been is a bit like trying to explain crashing a P. Diddy party or getting on the list at polo to someone who lives in california and wears Birkenstocks. At Hamptons Man eveyone and everything is fabulous. Just showing up is genius. It is a celebration of the human spirit and of radical expression. People come to Hamptons Man from all walks of life and all from all over the world: from above 59th street and below. From Downtown and even Flatbush. Such is the global diversity and trancendent spirit of  Hamptons Man.

Hamptons Man is all this and more: The sacred schmooze. The ritual sip of a martini. The crash of the ocean and the crash of the market.  At Hamptons Man, the everyday is left behind for the commute with nature for creation, expression, and being--- at least until the next party on our list. It is where the energy of the summer combusts, culminating in the buring of Hamptons Man, lime blazer and all, as an expression of our spirit, aspiration, and belief that that lime jacket has got to go becuase fashion week is just a few days away and something else is surely in.

Hamptons Man Philosophy

Our sister festival, Burning Man, has a resolutely anti-corporate philopsophy. Pure inspiration! But hailing from Madison Avenue, Wall Street and Barneys we sought even greater enlightenment.

The air we breathe. Sponsored. The earth we stand on. Sponsored. The vodka we drink. Sponsored. Our aspirations, hopes and eternal spirit. Sponsored. Sponsored. Sponsored.

Hamptons Man celebrates the frontiers of mankind’s evolution: the transcendent dance between brand and humanity. Between product and essence. The emergence of a commercial being greater than us all.

At Hamptons Man nothing can be bought or sold because everything is given away. Here everyone is someone and the utopian economy of the goody bag has replaced notions of scarcity. Love, nurtured by eternally pining brands, abounds

Where did this idea come from? Is it really OK to Have Fun in the Hamptons?

Every year during Labor Day week there is a legenary gathering and celebration of creativity in the Nevada desert: Burning Man. It is, perhaps, the greatest week long party on earth attracting 35,000 people. Back when Burning Man started, in the '80s, it was just a small party on the beach. Who are we to let all those folks out West have all the fun? So we're starting a small party on the beach.

Both Burning Man and Hamptons Man are being chronicled on blogs ( frequently updated web postings), and both events are blogging one anothers activivities. Marry Hodder, blogger extraordinaire, will be chronicling Burining Man live and picking up the latest from Hamptons Man. Click here to read her reports.

How Do I Attend?

September 4th - 6:00 PM - Coopers Beach

You come the beach and hang out. Come prepared to have fun, let loose, and celebrate. We'll provide sunset, bonfire (officially, a contained bonfire) and libations. Bring any food you'd like to eat (we will have a few kettle charcoal grills). Since we're not sure how many folks will show up, its a also a good idea to bring additional beverages. The village has asked us to make sure we leave the beach as clean as we found it, so please throw out any empties, wrappers, etc.

We'll start around 6:00 PM and pobably be done by 9:00 (unless we want to stay longer!) Sunset is around 7:15 that evening and it gets dark half an hour later. We'll have torches to light the beach.
